Beautifully Simple Home Decorating Hacks – PART ONE

If your six-year-old seat cushions are victims of saggy-sofa syndrome, make them look brand new with box of Poly-Fil and a bag of Poly-Fil Quilt Batting for less than $30.
Have a conspicuous, unsightly router? Hide it inside a large book. Cut the books pages leaving about an inch top and bottom and turn the titled spine to the room side.
Fix small nicks on appliances and tile with nail polish, which comes in thousands of different colors – cheap ones cost less than $2.
Add metal coat hooks to the backs of doors for holding keys, coats, bags, jewelry. Organizers brooms and mops by looping a cord to the end of the handle – drill a hole if necessary – and hang them upside down.
Use damage-free, self-stick, Command™ hooks to hang a light-weight curtain rod. Or ditch hooks altogether and use shower curtain tension rods to hang curtains inside deep window frames.
Make D.I.Y. curtains from pairs of bedsheets, or for more sun control cut an inexpensive duvet cover in half. Duvet fabric is doubled and will create its own lining.
Use an upside-down Command™ hook on the backside of a door to hang a ribbon of a decorative wreath.
Turn your window into a springtime headboard by centering your bed in front of it,. Place some nice curtain panels on either side, then decorate the rest of the room. Your room will feel larger, and you will automatically have an ever-changing focal point.
Give your built-in bookshelves a bright update by painting their back wall a bold color. If you’re renting and don’t want to lose your security deposit, paint poster board (cut-to-fit) and affix it to the back wall with removable double-face tape.

For a cheap and classy alternative to bookshelves, use stair treads supported by corbels.
Use decorative shower curtain rings instead of cheap curtain hooks and use old necklaces and costume jewelry as shower curtain tie-backs.
Add a touch of class to your vanity by putting mouthwash in crystal decanters. If your vanity top is large, add a small lamp or two and pamper the space with pretty, petite, potted plants.
Store necklaces, belts and scarves on a tie rack. Keep small pieces of jewelry in beautiful tea cups, ice cube trays, or on plates and saucers. Stack bracelets on an old paper towel holder rod – which also can be used to store spools of ribbon for wrapping presents.
Want to see what your walls will look like in different colors before you paint? Upload a room picture and use the color tool at http://www.mycolortopia.com
After you’ve painted those walls, store some extra paint in a baby food jar – label it with the name, number, brand, date and room you used it in. Small, tightly-sealed jars are perfect for quick touch-ups, and will keep paint fresher than storing it in its original can. Store those jars where the paint won’t freeze and ruin.
